Saturday on DVD: Breakfast at Tiffany's

Oh, lovely Audrey. Oh, dreamy George Peppard (twenty plus years before The A-Team). Just gearing up for Valentine's Day. One of these years I'm going to watch nothing but romance movies for the whole two weeks from February first through the fourteenth.

Breakfast at Tiffany's. I'm not really sure how to describe it. I'll leave that to the folks at IMDb and Wikipedia. What I will say is that I love the clothes, Miss Golightly's naivete coupled with a sense of risque, and the romance of being saved from yourself. Which is what some of the best romance is all about, wouldn't you agree?

As I was watching the film last night, however, I was reminded that racial stereotyping which may have passed for comic relief in 1961 is appalling today. That said, I so enjoy watching the rest of it that my sister-in-law gave me the DVD for Christmas two years ago. It is always a treat for me to pop it in the player when I need a little escape from real life. Breakfast at Tiffany's even inspired my cell phone ring tone, Henry Mancini's Oscar-winning Moon River.

Next week: The perfect Valentine's Day movie, in my opinion.

What's your favorite romance movie?
