10K Everyday!

I ran my first 10K this past Saturday!  I had found out about it and registered in late September, giving me just a month to see if I could actually add a mile onto my usual distance (five miles).  Turns out it was not too difficult.

I finished with a time of 1:13:30, which was my best time ever!  I placed 253rd...which doesn't bother me at all.  My goal was to run the whole way, and finish at or under 1:15.  When I crossed the finish line, the announcer read out my name and I went over to kiss my kids and hubby, full of joy.  Andrew said, "Mommy, you won!"  Indeed.

It was just two years ago that I started walking an hour twice a week.  Eighteen months ago, I decided I wanted to go faster, to run, something I never thought I would have a desire to do.  A year ago, I was able to go five miles in an hour for the first time.  One month ago, I attempted to go six instead of five miles.  Two days ago, I ran a 10K race (and for a good cause, too).  Now I feel like I want to do a 10K everyday I go out for a run!

At forty plus years old, I am seeing that with commitment and perseverance, I can accomplish things I didn't know were possible for me before.  It feels wonderful not only for myself, but to be running (and painting) as a positive example for my kids.  I wonder what else I can do?!

So, with feelings of both pride and gratitude, I am posting a rare photo of myself today, post race, big smile.
