Book o' the Month: Howards End

I saw Howards End, the movie, in 1992, but did not read the novel by E. M. Forster until this month. I remember expecting the movie to be like A Room With a View (another Merchant Ivory production based on an E. M. Forster novel), but aside from the brilliant acting, wonderful costumes, and luscious scenery, it was not quite. I wish I had read the book first.

I have fallen in love with Howards End, the novel (and the house). There were several passages that were so beautiful, so clever, so insightful, so poignant even for our modern times. The characters, story, and the themes provided for a great read.

Now I just need revisit the movie with new eyes. And read more novels by E. M. Forster.
