Watch This! : Ondine

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I've got an Irish film to tell you about: Ondine.

This dream-like movie completely captivated me. I like the way the plot is summarized here. This is the first film I have seen with Colin Farrell (besides a few minutes of Phone Booth), whom I have always thought of as mostly doing action roles. I thought his performance was very good. Alicja Bachleda was mysterious and ethereal. Stephen Rea was perfect as the priest. And young Allison Barry was wonderfully wise beyond her years.

With so much Irish blood running through my veins, I was easily enticed by the scenery. And get this: Ondine was filmed in County Cork, where some of my ancestors are from. I simply must go there someday.

Other Irish films you might enjoy: Leap Year, Waking Ned Devine. And here's a list of films set in Ireland.

Happy St. Paddy's and don't drink too much green beer!

P.S. Today's was the last installment of this year's winter movie suggestions, Watch This! Hope you enjoyed my quirky picks.
