As I mentioned in this post, A Good Year is based on a novel by Peter Mayle. It was a light read, and I would describe this as a light film, as well. It is considerably different from the book, however.
Russell Crowe stars, along with Albert Finney and Marion Cotillard. All deliver good performances. Crowe is quite believable, Finney is just plain good, and Cotillard is smart and enchanting.
If you decide to give this flick a go, please read the book, too. It is a quick read and the mystery in it is quite a bit more entertaining than the film. Then, if you crave more lovely French countryside, have a look at Mayle's A Year in Provence. It's been over a decade since I read/saw it, but I remember it is very good.
