Book o' the Month: The Winter Sea
I first heard about this book here over at On A Rainy Night....
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsly looked quite intriguing, and I ordered it right away so I could read it before the season changed. (Just a quirky habit of mine, I guess.)
This work of historical fiction takes place in the first decade of the 1700s in Scotland, mostly at Slains Castle. I liked the historical details (I especially enjoyed the five pages of "About the Characters" at the end that expounded on several of the people in the book), and the scenery. It was just what I needed to get me in the mood for March--Scotland is pretty close to Ireland!
At 527 pages, The Winter Sea seems long, but I flew through it. I think it could make a good movie.
And...what a coincidence...this same novel is featured over at Some of a Kind today! Happy Turn the Page ... Tuesday!, one of my favorite days of the month in blogland.
