Thought for the Day

A while ago, on the back of a pick-up truck, I saw a bumper sticker that read, "Remember what you wanted to be when you grew up."

The first thing I ever wanted to be was an architect because I loved flipping through the pages of my grandma's Architectural Digest magazines.

After that, I wanted to be an artist. So I went to college and earned a degree in art.

But I also wanted to be able to reliably support myself, so I became a teacher. And I did love teaching, especially when it involved speaking Spanish.

Now I am a mother. I always knew I wanted to have children, but I didn't know I wanted to
be a mother until the day motherhood actually arrived.

I may go back to teaching someday, especially if I could teach kindergarten. And I will definitely get back to painting someday.

Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up?

  1. I wanted to be a singer...specifically I wanted to BE Dolly Parton, that didn't work out so much! But then I always wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher because I loved mine so much. I nver quite made it to teaching Kindergarten, but preschool comes pretty darn close!

  2. I wanted to be wonder Woman with Farrah Fawcett hair! I gave up the idea of being an artist when I entered college and decided I needed to get a "real job." I became a social worker-type and only recently decided to take up art again. I agree with the bumper sticker, never lose sight of your original passions!
