Book o' the Month: The Garden of Eden

(This is actually August's Book o' the Month. I'm a day late posting. Just so you know. Moving on...)

The Garden of Eden by Ernest Hemingway (published posthumously) was my favorite book for a long time. But then, I hadn't read it in over a decade. I decided I'd better read it again, to be sure.

This a a very quick read and a great summertime book as it chronicles the 1920s era honeymoon of an American couple on the French Riviera.

I don't want to give anything away, so I'll be brief. Let me just say I understand some of the themes in this book better now than I did when I first read it as a teen. Let me also just say I still find it an interesting story, with an intriguing ending.

And I still love love love Hemingway's writing style. I will never forget how he describes the meals (especially eggs) in such a way that you can almost taste the delicious food. I have read a number of his books. Back in the day, I used to scope out the library stacks for the thickest books I could find to fill free hours of teenage summer reading time. Hemingway is a master, a gift, and I can only wonder what wonderful novels were left unwritten.

Is The Garden of Eden still my favorite book? Well, no. (Though I would recommend it.)

So, my category for favorite book is now officially open. Any suggestions? What is your favorite book?

  1. The Red Tent. I forgot the author, but as long as I live I will never forget that book. I'm a huge reader, and it is RARE for me to read a book more than once, if I already know how it goes, I can't (won't) read it again. I'm like that with movies as well.
That book touched me to the core and I will never forget the amazing women it was filled with. I've read it three times and I highly reccomend it!
